God Bless Our Troops

Didn't get a workout in today due to having to be at work early. Thank goodness, this isn't the norm. Not much to report except that last night I made a batch of peppermint soap. The last one I did was pretty, but the color wasn't what I wanted, so Mom will get some soap. She loves peppermint. Last night's batch turned out the way I wanted it to and I can't wait to get home tonight to cut it and put it out on the curing rack.

Today is one of those days that is jam packed. I'm here until 5:00 and then I have a lot of odds and ends - laundry etc to finish up. I have some candles to make to fill an order that has to go out tomorrow. I have an RCIA meeting tonight and then it's home again to make more stockings.

Word of the day:
Memorial of Saint Peter Claver, priest
Gospel
Lk 6:12-19
Jesus departed to the mountain to pray,
and he spent the night in prayer to God.
When day came, he called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles:
Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew,
James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus,
Simon who was called a Zealot,
and Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

And he came down with them and stood on a stretch of level ground.
A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people
from all Judea and Jerusalem
and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon
came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases;
and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured.
Everyone in the crowd sought to touch him
because power came forth from him and healed them all.

Thoughts from the cornfield:
No thoughts today since I didn't have time to ruminate on the reading. One thing stands out though. Jesus spent an entire night in prayer. What would our lives be like if we spent even 5 minutes praying about a decision? What would our lives be like if our gut reaction to stresses in our lives was prayer rather than other means of coping? How powerful would we be as evangelists for Jesus?

God bless the troops!

Hello.
I found your blog while looking up a soap making question.
I noticed that you didn't get the colour you wanted, and then fixed it.
I just made some peppermint soap and used peppermint tea instead of water (that is what the recipe called for). My soap is cooking (hot process) and it's a weird orange colour. How did you get the colour you wanted (if you don't mind me asking)

Hi Anne-Marie,
I'm always glad to talk to a sister soaper. :) I didn't actually fix it, I just re-made the batch and gave the the other away as gifts. However, I could have just renamed it Woodland Mint or something. The problem was that I used the wrong color to begin with - meant to use pink and used peach. Let your soap cure and see what you get. The color will probably get better. If not, you can grate it up and rebatch it, but I'm guessing the color will settle down to a nice peach color and then you can call it Peachy Mint or something.
