This morning's Mass was bittersweet. We all dressed in red. Red was Owen's favorite color. Father's homily was about the tough week that the kids have gone through. It was hard to look out at the little ones and know that a face was missing. After Mass, the students gathered in the parish hall. Each was given a red or white balloon. We all headed out to the courtyard. Father gave a short tribute and the balloons were released. This is something these kids will remember the rest of their lives. This afternoon the kids will go to the funeral home. Such a hard lesson for such young ones.

Tomorrow is the funeral. The school kids gave me suggestions for music. Those students who attend the funeral will be invited to sing with the cantor.
Tomorrow is going to be a hard day.

As I usually do when I am feeling down, I made some soap. There is something soul-satisfying about doing things like making soap or baking bread. I made a soap that I will name Fairy Tales. It is swirled with pink and lavender, sprinkled with pink and lavender glitter, and decorated with candy pearls. I made 3 little cupcakes and our usual maple leaf sample sizes. It is so pretty. I can't wait to cut it.  I even had enough left to make a couple of flowers.  I still need to wait a little longer before piping the frosting, but I am getting there.

Late night update:   We were featured in an Artfire Collection!!

Word of the day:
Thursday of the Fifth week of Lent
Saint(s) of the day : St Peter Gonzales, Dominican Priest (1190-1246)
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 8:51-59.

Jesus said to the Jews: «Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.»
(So) the Jews said to him, "Now we are sure that you are possessed. Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say, 'Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.'
Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? Or the prophets, who died? Who do you make yourself out to be?"
Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing; but it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, 'He is our God.'
You do not know him, but I know him. And if I should say that I do not know him, I would be like you a liar. But I do know him and I keep his word.
Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day; he saw it and was glad.
So the Jews said to him, "You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?"
Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM."
So they picked up stones to throw at him; but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.

It is so hard to see such a young one die. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Owen's family at this hard time. I believe he is sitting with Our Heavenly Father at this very moment.
