Here is a picture of the Honey Blossom Soap from last night.  You can see where it started to gel in the middle even though I put it in the freezer.  I have heard some soapmakers say that partially gelled soap is the sign of a novice soapmaker.  That is patently untrue.  It has a lot to do with the recipe, the fragrance oil, and the additives.  This batch has fresh goat milk and that added to the heating up of the batch.  Partial gel does not affect the quality of the soap in any way.

Word of the day:
Wednesday of the Fourteenth week in Ordinary Time
Saint(s) of the day : St. Maria Goretti, Virgin and Martyr (1890-1902), St. Palladius, Bishop and Apostle of the Scots, (+ c. 450)
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 10:1-7.

Then he summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness.
The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus;
Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.
Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus, "Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.
Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
As you go, make this proclamation: 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'

I hate partial gels, but I agree it's not a sign of a novice soaper. I chuckle every time I see one of the biggest goat milk soap companies out there, the one that inspired me, having partial gel show up in their bars.

I gel my soaps, usually wrap the molds in towels and let them do their thing. The few times I've tried to prevent it by cooling them I've ended up with the partial gel ring. And I hate that more than the slightly darker bar gelling gives me.

Yesterday it was near 90 degrees here. I thought it was hot enough to not have to wrap my molds in towels, but nope, when I unmolded them today I see they didn't gel quite all the way to the ends. *sigh*
