God Bless Our Troops

Thirty five years ago, 10 days after our wedding, I got a call from my grandfather telling me that Daddy had died.  I can remember it like it was yesterday.  He was 48 years old.  Does that seem young?  Does it seem old?  Tomorrow I will play a funeral for a lady who was 101 years old.  On Saturday I will play a funeral for a 6-year-old.  Sometimes nothing makes sense.  I have played one other funeral for someone over 100, but I have never played a funeral for someone so young.  I can't even imagine the agony of the family of the little boy.  Owen was a kindergarten student at our church school.  Friday he was in school.  He received an award after Mass.  Monday he was gone.  Seize the day and treasure the moment.

Last week I got my very first order of soap from my Etsy shop.  Yesterday, Deb from Springvale Soap wrote about us in her blog.  She is such a sweetheart!!

I received notice today that my loaf cutter for my soap is shipping today.  I cancelled the mold that I had ordered with it because I ended up buying some other molds because I couldn't wait.  From what I have heard, the workmanship is awesome.  I just wish he was more truthful about arrival times on his products.  His communication is much better than it was, so that is a good thing.  I can't wait for it to get here because I have an order for soap for wedding attendants and I want all of the slices to be the same size.

I spent the day working on music for Holy Week and for tomorrow's funeral.  People have no idea what goes on behind the scenes of the Mass to make sure that the liturgy runs smoothly. The actual playing at Mass actually takes up the least of my time.  It is the preparation that bumps up the hours I spend working.  But I love it.  Just wish I was more organized - I try, but I am not gifted in that department.  :)

I got some new fragrance oils in yesterday and I am itching to try them out, but not until I have time to do it without rushing.

Word of the day:
Wednesday of the Fifth week of Lent
Saint(s) of the day : St Hermenegild, Martyr († 586)
Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 8:31-42.

Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him, "If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples,
and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
They answered him, "We are descendants of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, 'You will become free'?"
Jesus answered them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.
A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains.
So if a son frees you, then you will truly be free.
I know that you are descendants of Abraham. But you are trying to kill me, because my word has no room among you.
I tell you what I have seen in the Father's presence; then do what you have heard from the Father."
They answered and said to him, "Our father is Abraham." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing the works of Abraham.
But now you are trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God; Abraham did not do this.
You are doing the works of your father!" (So) they said to him, "We are not illegitimate. We have one Father, God."
Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and am here; I did not come on my own, but he sent me.

You are so right - it does take a lot of time to make the liturgy run smoothly...I've been a pastoral coordinator and responsible for all those things...and Holy Week is so full of changes - every day it is something new. Good luck on your music...how sad about the little boy...what happened?

48 years old seems very young to me, especially since I'm creeping up on it. My dad died when he was 63 and these days even that seems too young.

How sad about the 6 year old? How did he die?

My husband's grandma died this past Saturday. She was 102 and had a great life. Even at her 100th birthday she was up and around and perky and playing her accordian.

The official cause is septicemia (which is a blood infection), but no one seems to know what caused the infection.

I joined your blog becasue I really understand what you are going through.

Our oldest son is in college now but before he went into high school 9th his BF ided and it was SO HARD, and in his senior year one month before graduating high school his great friend died of brain cancer. They were in every sport and my husband coached the baseball team they both were on and football for 3 years until Tommy couldn't play anymore, they did retire his number and our oldest son did speak at the the wake
and played a song later that same day.
It is so hard at any age to lose young children because I feel we should pass before our children, I am so sorry to hear this it is very sad and it breaks my heart.

I hope you come by my blog, I love new follower's and I will be back and
good luck on your music!!!!!!!!

Blessings,
Tricia
